Which are essays? An essay is, generally speaking, a written piece that provides the author’s argument, but sometimes the definition is indeed ambiguous, overlapping with that of a report, a book, an guide, pamphlets, and even a short story. Essays have historically always been classified either as formal and scholarly or informal and personal. In modern times essays can be the item of private research or the result of student work given particular topics. Since the turn of the 20th century, essays have increasingly been seen as products of their university as opposed to a private pursuit chased between one instructional egotist and another.
Since the 1970’s essays are now increasingly popular reading for college students. The most prominent way to classify a writing sample is to split it into two types: first, descriptive essays – these are functions of prose utilizing literary, technical or sociological terms and concepts; second, figurative essays – all these are written pieces that include illustrations or pictures.(ppings for figurative language don’t need to be literary, sociological or technical, just creative.)
The arrangement of a descriptive article depends upon defining, organizing and quoting significant information concerning the author, the topic or the literature being studied. This advice needs to be proven through indirect means, typically quotes from primary sources, which are usually cited in footnotes at the end of the essay. For instance, if you’re writing an article on American political history you should quote important Americans such as Woodrow Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and so forth. You’d then explain how the construction of the United States government or how various areas of it arose out of the relationships and contrasts of these leaders. Last, you would conclude with a thesis – what you think to be the central thesis of your article.
On the other hand, literary examples of documents usually begin with a statement of the main subject of the essay, followed by an extended paraphrase or abridgment of the main idea. The literary examples I like are aphorisms, metaphors, or tales which illustrate the writer’s point of view on a certain issue or idea. You may use literary devices as well such as similes, allusions, alliterations, and metaphors. An example of an essay are found below.
An argumentative essay relies on a strong thesis statement to support its decisions. Contrary to a descriptive essay, an argumentative essay relies on strong arguments backed by extensive supporting evidence to support its statements. It differs in the persuasive essay because it does not rest on mere opinion; instead, it utilizes powerful arguments to argue its points. One good argument against a claim would be to show it is not possible, but another good reason for accepting a claim is to show that it is possible. In the end, there are two items I find of particular interest in all of these types of essays – the 2 things are analogies and similes. Analogies and similes have an excellent place in nearly any literature since, as George Simpson says,”they link two objects carefully enough to be true.” Similes and analogies have comparable benefits as well, but they are often used in essays to emphasize an emotional response, or to provide an entertaining or surprising fact or trivia. In the last analysis, you should choose your essays based on how well the writer uses the tools I have explained here – the defining elements of this writing style, including the introduction, the body and the finish.
